liner notes: Schmölzer´s pieces create images in one´s mind that not only stimulate but also compel one to reflection and memory. Just like a wave that returns over and over and yet never has the same form, Reinhold Schmölzer´s move on further. Although he is counted among the young composers, he has found his own style. He is - and this has been confirmed not only by the international awards and composition commissions but also by international music journalists - a master at constructing complex themes, which surprises rhythmically and also are convincing in the sheer endless melodic structures underpinned with refined harmonies. He has managed to expand on the pathways that mentors like Ed Partyka, John Hollenbeck and David Friedman have shown him. In addition, he also uses an expanded sound palette. Along with the traditional big band sound he has enhanced the timbral possibilities on this CD through the use of a tubax, various percussion or even vibraphone with electronic effects.
