liner notes: Fette Hupe present their first studio album GODCHILD, a powerful opus charged with emotion. The six pieces by Northern German composer and arranger Jörn Marcussen-Wulff combine elements of traditional bigband music with the experimental sound of a modern jazz orchestra. The eponymous title track GODCHILD deals with the fate of a young family closely linked to the composer - a touching requiem for his deceased godchild. The other pieces also intend to convey strong emotions: LAX talks about the desire for a new beginning and the simultaneous release of old established habits, while BUSY TIMES summarizes the turbulences of student life in a ten-minute sound explosion. The collection is rounded off with Lullaby by Tom Waits - here in a rendition for a "fat" bigband line-up. Since its formation in the summer of 2009, the professional bigband Fette Hupe stands for uncompromising, independent and fresh music made in Hannover. Conductor Jörn Marcussen-Wulff has composed and arranged for renown jazz ensembles like NDR Bigband, HR-Bigband, the LJJO Schleswig-Holstein and for the Metropole Orchestra.
