A TRIO WITH MANY INFLUENCES DISPLAYS A UNITY OF INTENT
From his first trio recording on Unit Records some years ago (1995, UTR 4074), it was evident that Adrian Frey, the pianist and composer produced a singular sound with his music.
On his latest CD, Adrian continues to follow his own artistic vision with original songs built on challenging harmonic progressions that create striking melodies.
His musical inspiration comes from a variety of sources: an Afro-Cuban Santeria groove, the jazz trumpeter Don Cherry, Schumann and the Romantic period of European music, a poem by the Persian poet and mystic, Rumi and Brazilian music.
A French critic wrote, that "Pianist Adrian Frey knows how to make a piano sing and have it tell stories."
Adrian’s piano is enhanced by drummer Tony Renold's dynamic grooves and colourful cymbal work which mix perfectly with bassist Patrick Sommer's warm tone and impeccable time feel.
Together the three musicians create a distinctive sound with interaction as its core element and new music that goes beyond the traditional jazz piano trio. |
